Ensure enforcement of Consumer Protection Act: Trade Advisor

Trade adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the proper implementation of the Consumer Rights Protection Act should be ensured. He said this at the 28th meeting of the National Consumer Rights Protection Council on Sunday. The meeting was held in the meeting room of the National Directorate of Consumer Protection.

Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the National Consumer Rights Protection Council, emphasized on making the people aware of the rights of consumers and said, 'Self-correction will come if you can reach the stakeholders (partners) by creating proper brochures. If the consumer knows his rights, he will have a desire to get them.'

The advisor said, 'We are all consumers in our personal and family lives. In order to protect ourselves, we must ensure proper implementation of the Consumer Protection Act. He said, 'Every person has a responsibility in the society. They need to be informed about that liability.' At this time, he also said that if necessary, the concept of enhancing consumer rights and ethics can be included in the education program.

In the meeting, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Routine Duties) Mohammad Naveed Shafiullah, Director General of Consumer Rights Protection Directorate. Abdul Alim Khan, Administrator of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI). Hafizur Rahman, General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB). Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Director General SM Ferdous Alam and representatives of the Directorate of Drug Administration addressed the meeting.
