The government has decided to purchase a total of 90,000 metric tons of fertilizer for use in the country's agriculture sector using the G2G method on the proposal of the Ministry of Industry. Of this, 60 thousand metric tons of urea and 30 thousand metric tons of rock phosphate. It will cost 338 crore 94 lakh taka.
On Wednesday (December 4) in the conference room of the Cabinet Department, Finance Advisor Dr. This procurement proposal was approved in the meeting of the advisory council committee on government procurement held under the chairmanship of Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to the sources of the meeting, in view of the proposal of the Ministry of Industry, the proposal to import 30 thousand metric tons of bagged prilled urea fertilizer from Qatar Energy Marketing through the state contract has been approved. It will cost 1 crore 10 lakh 90 thousand 100 US dollars. Its amount in Bangladesh currency is 133 crore 8 lakh 12 thousand taka.
It is known that in view of the approval of the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on June 11 of this year, an agreement was signed for the import of 5 lakh 10 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer from Qatar Energy Marketing through a state-level agreement in the fiscal year 2024-25. In the light of that agreement, 30 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer will be imported now. According to the contract with Qatar Energy Marketing, the price of fertilizer is fixed at USD 369.67 per metric ton.
In view of another proposal of the Ministry of Industry in the meeting, the advisory council committee approved the import of 30 thousand metric bulk granular (optional) urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia. The price has been fixed at US$ 342.33 per metric ton. The total cost will be 1 crore 2 lakh 69 thousand 900 dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 123 crore 23 lakh 88 thousand taka.
Besides, the cabinet committee has approved the import of 30 thousand metric tons of rock phosphate (70 percent BPL minimum) for Chittagong's TSPCL. This proposal was also given by the Ministry of Industry. It will cost 82 crore 62 lakh taka.
