The election-centric coalition-forum has finalized its panel leaders or team leaders to contest the elections of the garment industry owners' association BGMEA. Mahmud Hasan Khan is the team leader of the forum which runs on the principles of service, honesty, courage and prosperity. He is the Managing Director of Rising Fashions. Prior to this, he has contributed to the apparel sector by joining the directorship of BGMEA as vice-president. Served as director of BTMA and BKMEA.
The top leaders of the election-centric alliance introduced the new panel leader to entrepreneurs in the garment sector at a five-star hotel in the capital on Wednesday (November 20) evening. Mahmud Hasan Khan started business in this sector on a small scale, and expanded the factory and business in the last two years.
In the event, former president of BGMEA Anisur Rahman Sinha, Anwar-ul-Alam Chaudhary Parvez, Dr. Rubana Haque was present. President of the forum Abdul Salam and Rashid Ahmed Hossaini were also present.
The forum leaders said at this time, steps should be taken to solve the existing problems of the garment sector – the BGMEA board of directors needs a competent leader. Under whose dynamic leadership this sector will move forward. Mahmood Hasan Khan is a worthy leader in the interests of the garment industry.
Entrepreneurs say the apparel industry is going through a tough time. The industry is facing many challenges. Courageous decisions are needed to deal with this global and local situation. Crisis cannot be overcome by card-carrying leaders alone. It is necessary to understand the need of this sector.
At that time, panel leader Mahmud Hasan Khan told reporters that they want the election within the stipulated time. At the same time urging to ensure that only those who are members of Udokta and the organization are voters, the administrator should organize a fair and acceptable election by preparing an accurate voter list before the election.
The panel leader said that if elected, he would give importance to the workers not to take to the streets. At the same time, improvement of employer-labor relations is his priority.
Earlier, on October 20, the Board of Directors of BGMEA was dissolved by the Ministry of Commerce on multiple charges. It was mainly led by businessmen close to the outgoing government. Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League general secretary SM Mannan Kochi became the president from the combined council through the questionable election of last March. However, after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, she was not seen again. A murder case has also been registered against him.
Administrators are appointed to hand over the responsibilities to the new board through fair and impartial elections within 120 days after the dissolution of the board.
