Egypt's external debt declined by 9% in the second half of 2023/24

Arab Finance: Egypt's total external debt recorded $152.9 billion at the end of the second half of the 2023/24 fiscal year, a decrease of $15.1 billion – or 9% – compared to $168 billion in the first half ending last December, according to For data Central Bank.

Egypt's external debt fell to $153.9 billion at the end of last May, a decrease of $14.2 billion – or 8.4% – from the level recorded at the end of December 2023.

Medium- and long-term debt represented about 83% of the country's total external debt, which amounted to $126.9 billion, while short-term debt represented about $26 billion – that is, 17% of the total external debt.

External debt decreased by $11.8 billion during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, from $164.7 billion at the end of the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
