Allegations of forced commitment for money

Two senior officers of Shahjalal Islami Bank have been accused of threatening a colleague with a written promise to pay Tk 2760,000. The victim claims that although a complaint has been made to the higher authorities, efforts are being made to cover up the matter. Although the responsible persons are still in custody, on the contrary, he is under pressure.

According to the complaint documents, Shahjalal Islami Bank's Dhaka Head Office Branch Head and Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Mostafa Hossain called his subordinate colleague Nakibul Haque to his room on October 9. Wahidul Islam, team leader of internal audit department of the bank was also there at that time. They closed the door of the room and accused Nakibul of embezzling Tk 1 million and 60 thousand and pressed for the return of that money.

According to the complaint, after being appalled by their rude attitude, Nakibul at one point signed a white paper as per the instructions and signed an undertaking to return the money. But the two senior officers immediately tore the pledge and forced him to write a pledge of 27 lakh 60 thousand on another paper in the same manner. Mustafa and Wahidul decided to kill Nakibul by strangulation when they asked for the reason for the second commitment. Nakibul was forced to write a second pledge. After that, he was thrown out of the office with death threats if he revealed the matter. A few days after this incident, on October 14, Nakibul was transferred to the Human Resources Department. He informed the incident in writing on October 21 and requested the MD to take action.

When asked, the victim Nakibul Haque told Ajker newspaper, 'There is nothing to talk about this complaint. An investigation is underway. Saying too much can put your job at risk.'

The main accused Mostafa Hossain said, “According to the rules, the permission of the bank is required to talk to the media in the case of signing the white paper. Human resource department can clarify this incident. DMD Mustafa Hossain suggested to contact the head of human resource department of the bank to find out what actually happened.

When asked, the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of the bank, Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, said, 'There is an allegation of taking a pledge with a signature on a white paper for money. The investigation is ongoing. Action will be taken subject to the finalization of the investigation.
