6,585 crore liquidity assistance to weak seven banks


Under the credit guarantee scheme of Bangladesh Bank, 9 strong banks have provided liquidity assistance of 6 thousand 585 crores to seven weak banks to meet the liquidity gap. However, 11 thousand 100 crores were demanded from these weak banks. Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson and Executive Director Husne Ara Shikha gave this information on Thursday.

Husnay Ara Shikha said, it is difficult for any bank to turn around with assistance. Apart from this, the bank should have its own strategy for debt recovery. Some banks are doing very well in loan recovery. Everyone should be proactive like them.

Among the weak banks, Islami Bank has received the most liquidity support, Husnay Ara Shikha said, 'Islami Bank has received Tk 2,950 million from seven banks. Apart from this, Social Islami Bank received Tk 1,175 crore from six banks, First Security Islami Bank received Tk 1,000 crore from six banks and Global Islami Bank received Tk 295 crore. Apart from this, National Bank has received liquidity support of Tk 920 crore, Exim Bank Tk 700 crore and Union Bank Tk 400 crore.
