The Calcutta High Court has granted bail to Abdul Kalim alias Azad, a member of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), accused in the Khagragarh blast in Burdwan, West Bengal. Justice Jaimalya Bagchi granted the bail on Friday (November 8).
Azad was arrested by Kolkata Police STF before the blast incident on charges of sedition. Later he was taken into custody by NIA. After completing the trial in the main case of Khagragarh, the 8-year sentence has already expired.
According to STF sources, the case was started against Azad on multiple charges including sedition. Later, some other evidence against him was presented in the court. In view of that, the judicial process is supposed to start. But so far it has not started.
Justice Jaimalya Bagchi said in the court's observation that it is unknown when the trial process of this case will end and Azad has already served 8 years. Hence his bail application was granted.
Incidentally, on October 2, 2014, an explosion occurred in Khagragarh, Burdwan, West Bengal. Two people were killed in that incident. After that, the NIA took over the responsibility of the district police, CID and took over the investigation. The National Investigation Agency arrested a total of 31 people in the incident. 19 of them recently pleaded guilty during the trial before a judge.
Five years after the incident, the verdict was announced after the completion of the trial, but the top leaders of the banned militant group Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who were behind the Khagragarh blast, Kadar Ghazi, Kawsar alias Boma Mizan, Dalim Sheikh, Yusuf Sheikh, who were arrested in this case, did not plead guilty. . The judge said that the trial of those 12 people will continue. Apart from this, the court also said that the trial process will continue due to the arrival of some other information documents against Abdul Kalim alias Azad.
