The US has announced a 20 percent fee on Sri Lanka's exports, which is 24 percent lower than the proposed initial rate for the island nation. The fee dialogue deadline ends on Friday, so the Sri Lankan officer and the negotiations for the deduction are continuing. The new fee will be applicable from August 7.

The US had reduced the fee to 30 percent last month. Sri Lankan exporters send goods worth about three billion US dollars every year to the US. They were expecting less than 20 percent fee to remain competitive with regional rivals such as Vietnam and Bangladesh.
