Jammu . Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the review meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDCL). In the meeting he urged for early completion of major hydropower projects in the Union Territory. Reiterating the government's commitment towards clean energy, Abdullah asked officials to formulate revival plans for stalled projects and implement them efficiently.
The review meeting held at the Civil Secretariat focused on assessing the progress of the ongoing hydropower projects and the expected increase in power generation. Abdullah said, “Timely implementation of hydropower projects is important to develop Jammu and Kashmir as a power surplus state. I urge all parties to actively resolve the challenges and accelerate the ongoing work in public interest.”
During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of overcoming challenges including contractual disputes, time and financial delays in under-construction projects and operational and maintenance issues in ongoing projects. A blueprint for the next five years was presented, outlining plans for substantial capacity addition to meet growing energy demands. Abdullah said that this will gradually reduce the dependence on electricity imports and increase the energy self-sufficiency of the region.
