Addressing the third 'International Conference on Sustainable Circularity' organized by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), an organization of automobile manufacturers, Yadav said that India now sells more cars annually than the population of some countries.
He said that this success is not just an achievement, but also comes with it a huge responsibility to keep the air clean and the environment clean. “The increase in vehicle sales is good news for the economy… and if we work together, we can ensure it doesn't become bad news for the environment too,” he said.
The minister said that the share of EV in total vehicle sales in 2030 is expected to be around 35 percent. He said, to bring the auto sector in line with the net zero target of 2070, this share will have to reach 50 percent. The minister said that the sales of electric vehicles in India are expected to reach one crore units by the end of this decade. , which will create 50 lakh jobs.
