Tariq Rahman calls upon the countrymen to remain calm in the regional tension

Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman called upon the countrymen to remain calm in the regional tension caused by the anti-Bangladesh provocative propaganda in the Indian media. He made this call in a statement on his social media handle (X and Facebook) on Monday (December 2).

Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the media cell of BNP, gave this statement on Tuesday (December 3) night. He said that after the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country, Tariq Rahman made this statement in view of the fear of disruption of regional stability due to 'provocative and political statements' in the Indian media around Bangladesh.

In the statement, Tariq Rahman expressed concern about such incidents. He alleged that Indian commentators were stoking anti-Bangladesh sentiments by 'creating a fog of disinformation' and damaging regional stability.

Citing Monday's attack on the Bangladeshi consulate in Agartala as evidence of instability, the BNP Acting Chairman claimed that such incidents risk deepening the conflict between neighboring countries.

Tariq Rahman writes, 'International actors must recognize that no other country has anything to gain by destabilizing Bangladesh, a country of nearly two hundred million people. He emphasized on building relations between the people of Bangladesh and India free from political parties and leaders. Tariq Rahman urged international observers to understand the post-departure situation of Sheikh Hasina and the political dynamics in Bangladesh since her flight to India.

The Acting Chairman of BNP emphasized that Bangladesh is committed to the principles of religious harmony and territorial sovereignty despite the challenges it faces. He wrote, 'Bangladesh was and will remain a country of religious harmony and territorial sovereignty. In this country, the rights and freedoms of every citizen irrespective of caste, color and religion are protected. Acting BNP leader urged Bangladeshis not to fall into the trap of incitement and called for restraint. He wrote, 'I request my fellow Bangladeshis to exercise utmost restraint and not to fall into any kind of incitement trap. The statement comes at a time when the nation is grappling with a post-Hasina political scenario and mounting regional issues.

Tariq Rahman appealed to all to maintain peace and remain united in countering this attempt by the opposition to destabilize the situation and asked to build strong bilateral relations with India on the basis of mutual respect and common interests. Political analysts said Tarek's comments highlighted the complexities of Bangladesh-India relations—which have often been influenced by individual political figures rather than broader diplomatic efforts. Whether his message of moderation resonates domestically and internationally remains to be seen.
