Tarek's return to the country is blocked by 4 more cases


Acting Chairman of BNP, Tarek Rahman, was acquitted in two cases of murder and Explosive Substances Act in connection with the grenade attack on the Awami League rally on August 21, 2004. Although acquitted in these two cases, he is still sentenced in four cases. Lawyers hope that he will get justice in the rest of the cases as well.

Tariq Rahman's lawyer and Nationalist Lawyers Forum leader Barrister Kaiser Kamal told reporters yesterday, 'Tarik Rahman has been sentenced in four more false cases. As he got justice in the August 21 grenade attack case, I hope the convicted will get justice in those four cases as well.'

Sentences are pending in those four cases

Tariq Rahman and his wife Dr. in a case of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth and concealment of wealth information. Zobaida Rahman was sentenced on August 2, 2023 by the judge of Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court and Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court. Achaduzzaman. The verdict sentenced Tarek to 9 years and Zobaida to 3 years.

Tariq Rahman was declared a fugitive and the trial of that case was ended. There was no appeal in this case as he was absconding.

On November 17, 2013, a special judge in Dhaka acquitted Tariq Rahman in a money laundering case in Singapore. Tarek's friend and prominent businessman Ghiyas Uddin Al Mamun was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment in that case. ACC later appealed to the High Court against the acquittal of Tariq Rahman. After hearing that appeal, the High Court on July 21, 2016 annulled the acquittal verdict of the judicial court and sentenced Tariq Rahman to 7 years imprisonment. Also fined 20 crore rupees.

On February 8, 2018, Tarek was sentenced to 10 years in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. His mother former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was also sentenced in this case.

On February 4, 2021, Tariq Rahman was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment by a judicial magistrate court in Narail. A brave freedom fighter filed a defamation case against Naile Tarek for insulting Bangabandhu.

On December 16, 2014, Tariq Rahman made several statements calling Bangabandhu Razakar and Pakbandhu in a rally organized by UK BNP in London. That news was published in a national daily of the country. Shahjahan Biswas, a brave freedom fighter of Narail, filed a defamation case against Tarek in the Narail Judicial Magistrate's Court, stating that Bangabandhu was defamed.

Two cases of Sylhet dismissed

The court has dismissed two cases filed by two Chhatra League leaders against Tariq Rahman on charges of sedition in Sylhet. Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Second Court judge Chagir Ahmad ruled to dismiss both cases yesterday as the plaintiff did not appear.

Additional PP of the court Abu Fahad confirmed the matter. He said that two cases filed by two Chhatra League leaders against Tariq Rahman on charges of treason in 2014 were dismissed by the court yesterday as the plaintiff did not appear.

In 2014, the Sylhet District Chhatra League's then general secretary M Raihan Chowdhury and Sylhet Agricultural University Chhatra League's then president Shamim Mollah filed two cases at the Sylhet Metropolitan Police Shahparan (reh.) police station.
