Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP's standing committee, said about the rewriting of the constitution, “We feel pain when it is said to bury the constitution written with the blood of martyrs.”
He said this in the speech of the chief guest at an exchange meeting in Nayapaltan of the capital on Sunday. Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP organizes this exchange meeting to exchange views with journalists of BNP beat.
Mirza Abbas said, 'Today is being called discriminatory speech. Our sons and daughters, who acted as the spark of the movement on August 5, single-handedly want to take this movement as their own. When the movement of public universities died down, but private universities came forward. Ordinary people come forward, we move forward. 462 of our BNP political workers have died.
Abbas said, 'Surely there will be one in the leadership, there will be thousands of people behind. But it is not right to make a single claim. But this will create division in the public mind. This is what I have to say, I have to say this. Because I participated in the liberation war in 1971, that too at the front. Many of my colleagues and friends have died. About 3 million were martyred. But we feel pain when it is said to bury the constitution which is written with the blood of martyrs.
Making a request to the anti-discrimination students, Mirza Abbas said, 'I request the brothers of the anti-discrimination student movement to try to understand the issues. Don't misunderstand. Bury, kill, cut—such words come from the mouth of fascism. But these are not good words. The nation is looking at you. We are also looking. I do not expect such words from your mouth.'
Mirza Abbas said, 'Everyone is saying that we want elections. The country's political party thinks that BNP will come to power only after elections. But we (BNP) do not think so. We think election is the right of the people of the country. BNP has been agitating for 17 years for this right. People my age or our age have spent half their lives in prison or on the run.'
Mirza Abbas also said, 'If you assume that BNP will come to power after elections, then why don't you think that, BNP is a very popular party. There is popularity to go to the polls. So why are you afraid, what is the problem if a popular party comes to power? We are not saying that BNP will come to power. To those who think, BNP has never said to come to power. BNP only wants elections, voting rights.'
BNP Chairperson Advisory Council member Abdus Salam, BNP Commercial Secretary Salahuddin Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Member Secretary Tanbir Ahmed Rabin and others were present in the event.
