Struggle over achievement of July revolution: Nazrul Islam Khan

Nazrul Islam Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, said, “The fight that I started against the dictatorship a decade and a half ago, has been transformed into a one-party struggle. The same reason that led to the one-party system led to the mass upheaval of 1969. The liberation war of 1971 was organized. The mass upheaval of the 1990s took place for the same reason. Unfortunately, somehow this victory was robbed. Less than 5 months after the July Revolution, the struggle to claim the credit for this victory began.

He spoke as the chief guest at the commemoration meeting of Jatiya Party Vice Chairman and Dhaka Metropolitan South President Hannan Ahmed Khan Bablu held at Zahurul Haque Auditorium in the capital's Jatiya Press Club on Saturday (January 11) afternoon.

Chairman of Jatiya Party (Zafar) Mustafa Jamal Haider and under the direction of Joint Secretary General ASM Shamim also spoke at the commemoration meeting, General Secretary of Jatiya Party and former MP Ahsan Habib Lincoln, Convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu.

Jatiya Party (Zafar) presidium member former MP Nawab Ali Abbas Khan, presidium member Alhaj Salim Master, Zobair Haider Ayan, joint secretary general Kazi Md. Nazrul, General Secretary of Youth Solidarity Nizam Uddin Sarkar, Student Samaj President Kazi Faiz Ahmed, General Secretary Mehdi Hasan Avi.

Nazrul Islam Khan said, July revolution did not succeed due to the single achievement of anyone. In the last 15 years, including those who have been killed, disappeared, crippled – students, children, workers have all contributed to this movement. Everyone can share it. If taken alone, the shoulders will become heavy.

He said, now many people are claiming that they know what is the welfare of the people. The same tablet was tried even after independence. Those who did not go to the liberation war told us about the spirit of the liberation war. Now a democracy has to be established, where people can express their opinion, exercise the right to vote and establish a democratic state. It has to be prioritized.

In the president's speech, Mustafa Jamal Haider said, it is true that the fascist Hasina government has left, but a new conspiracy has started. The ghosts of Hasina government are still lurking in the crevices of the society and creating multifaceted problems. Attempts are being made to confuse politics by making non-issues into issues. Why is local government election being brought up instead of bringing up the issue of national election. In whose interest the issue of local government elections is coming forward.

He also said that if the national elections are delayed, new conspiracies will sprout. Fallen autocracies will try to rehabilitate once again. The fight we started against Sheikh Hasina's fascism is not over yet. The democratic struggle of this country is not over yet. All our political forces should be united in this regard.
