'Some of the government's actions and announcements have sparked controversy'

Saiful Haque, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party, said that there is no lack of goodwill in the interim government, but there is lack of coordination, slowness, inexperience and lack of foresight in the management of the government.

He said, in the last 80 days, their various leaks and emotional talks have created an opportunity for confusion in the public mind about their goals and objectives. Some of their actions and announcements have also sparked controversy.

He said these things in his opening speech at the discussion meeting titled 'Interim Government 80 Days: Trends and Challenges' organized by the Revolutionary Workers Party at Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday (October 28).

Saiful Haque said that the most important task of the interim government is to carry out free and credible elections in the shortest possible time by completing the urgent reforms based on national consensus and leaving the elected government with dignity. But there is still no visible activity in this regard. The new election commission has not been formed yet.

He said that the report of the 10 reform commissions formed by the government should be finalized by next December and the action should be decided on the basis of consensus through discussions with the political parties. But the entire reform agenda has fallen far behind at the moment as new issues have been brought forward from different quarters, including the anti-discrimination student movement. Since the representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement are in important positions in the interim government, the question of whether the government has the consent or support behind the issues raised by them has been strongly raised. This situation calls into question the impartial character of the interim government.

Referring to the success and relief of the 80 days of the interim government, he said that despite the many deficiencies and weaknesses in the management of the government due to the pressure of the people's expectations, in the last 80 days, some order has returned to the country's fragile overall economy, the economy has started to move somewhat. The tribunal set up to try the brutal massacres and state terrorism during the mass uprising has already started working; Arrests of the accused are continuing albeit slowly.

Commenting on the unbridled rise in commodity prices, he said that the two most important priorities of the interim government were to provide comfort and security in public life, apart from elections, according to public desire. The government is making efforts for this. But the market situation is still rough; The unbridled rise in commodity prices is making people miserable. There is an alarming insecurity in public life. The administration, including the law and order forces, has yet to function professionally.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nagrik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, AB Party Member Secretary Mojibur Rahman Manju, Mass Solidarity Movement Coordinator Jonaid Saki, Bhashani Anusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) were present at the event. General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Salim and others.
