Nazrul Islam Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, commented that competition has started between various circles to take credit for the July coup. He said that the larger interests of the people should not be defeated by the political interests like before. Therefore, I call upon all concerned to establish real democracy.
He said this at the memorial meeting of the party's central vice chairman Hannan Ahmed Khan Bablu organized by the Jatiya Party at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Nazrul Islam Khan said, 'We fought again and again, but somehow our victory was robbed. Today feels very difficult, the change that happened on the 5th, only a few months have passed. In the meantime, a competition has started as to who deserves this victory. Even if everyone shares such a big victory, each one will have a much bigger share. If anyone tries to take the credit for this victory alone, his shoulder will be broken.'
He said, 'Those who have been martyred in this movement, those who have been killed, disappeared and tortured in the last 15 years, are all part of this victory. There are students, there are workers, it's everyone. Now is the time to take the victory achieved in this movement to the welfare of the people.
He said, fascism has fallen; Now to establish a cordial democracy, real democracy in this rubble. Where everyone will cast their votes without fear and the elected representatives will form the government.
He said, without proper voter list, Union Parishad, City Corporation – nothing is possible. If that (voter list) is done, then where is the obstacle to the parliamentary elections? Some have interests.'
Stating that it is not possible for the government alone to deal with the overall crisis, he said, this interim government will be completely successful, it will not happen. They are not politicians. They are successful, competent people in their respective fields, no doubt about it. They can't do that much.
Chairman of Jatiya Party (Zafar) and head of 12-party alliance Mustafa Jamal Haider presided.
