BNP's Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman commented, 'Containing the national heritage and the good achievements of the past – our spirit and responsibility must be forward-looking'. He said, 'to ensure that there is no repeat of the dictatorial system in Baladesh, BNP wants to put such a provision in the constitution that no one can be prime minister more than twice.'
Acting Chairman of BNP said these things in a discussion meeting held at a hotel in the capital on Thursday (November 14) focusing on the 31 points formulated with the aim of reforming the state.
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the discussion meeting on 31-point state structure repair outline and civic thinking.
This top leader of BNP said, 'We want to keep a balance of power between the law, judiciary and executive departments. I want to introduce a bicameral parliamentary system to ensure the representation and participation of the intellectuals of the society in the management of the state.
He mentioned, 'Traditional style of state management should not be bound. We should encourage modernity, embrace innovation. Looking ahead, we have to embrace the mindset of people from different walks of life, which in turn changes the political culture.'
Addressing the gathered guests, Tariq Rahman said, '31 points can be added, subtracted, rearranged or changed to adapt to the environment, situation, country's needs and people's needs. But it will be through stakeholder consultation and the advice of the participants and the unity of public opinion.
“With time, these 31 points will one day open the door to achieving our long-term goal of a happy and self-reliant Bangladesh – which will be known on the world map as a progressive state that is self-sufficient in agriculture, successful in industrialization, dynamic in economy, rich in human resources and socially united.”
He said, 'For the last 16 years and in the July-August uprising, those who were involved in the anti-fascist movement — every individual, party, organization and group in favor of democracy, with due recognition of their sacrifices, respecting the participation of people of every class, occupation and opinion, were robbed of their right to vote. Our concerted priority is to bring back and establish a truly democratic Bangladesh with the people's mandate.'
