National consensus should be created on reforms: Amir Khusrau

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, called for reforming the state through national unity and not selective reforms. He said, 'Reforms which are based on national unity, can be reformed. Consensus should be created on every issue.'

He said these things at a discussion meeting titled '80 Days of Interim Government: Trends and Challenges' organized by the Revolutionary Workers Party at Dhaka Reporters Unity's Nasrul Hamid Auditorium on Monday (October 28).

He said that Khaleda Zia spoke about reforms in 'Vision 2030' about 6 years ago. BNP has given 31 points for state reform. Conducted discussion meetings, seminars, leaflets. Reform is an ongoing process. In today's context, the question arises as to what basic reforms should be done and how to do them. Reforms which are based on national unity can be reformed. Reforms on which the people will not agree, all political parties will not agree – they must be left for the next government. Everyone should believe in consensus for national interest. Consensus must be created on every issue. In particular, no one disagrees about the reform of the electoral system and fair and impartial elections.

Amir Khosru said, 'In the past 16 years, many people have given their lives, lost their jobs, been crippled, many have suffered. They should be compensated by the government. Dictatorship fascist cronies are scrambling to make a comeback.'

He said, 'On August 5, I expelled the fascist Awami League. There has been a major change in the mentality of the citizens of Bangladesh. Everyone has hope and desire. We have to build a new Bangladesh standing on a pile of rubble. Everyone has supported the government through national unity.'

This senior leader of BNP said, 'Demon forces like Sheikh Hasina have arisen because the people could not vote for the last 16 years. The main bearer of ownership of the people is to elect the representatives of their choice through elections. The biggest unity of the people is that people want to vote. No one under 35 can vote yet.'

Amir Khosru said, 10 commissions have been formed for reforms. But in the meantime new demands are being presented. We do not know whether their demands are the same as those of the interim government or the commission. They must be cleaned. Because these demands are in conflict with the reforms.

Mahamudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorika Oikya, said, 'The reform work is an ongoing process. If a government says it will complete the reform work and hold elections. Then that government does not understand reform work. The main task of the interim government is to hold elections by making all the necessary reforms for fair elections. That is why they should emphasize on reforming the electoral system. So far this government has not been able to reform the administration and law enforcement.

Addressing the interim government, he said, 'August 8. Why did the president keep Sahabuddin Chuppu? He understood the mastermind of the student movement, but as a revolutionary government, he would not take oath under him. But you walked the democratic path, who is not moving Sahabuddin Chuppu, BNP or the government?'

Jonaid Saki, chief coordinator of mass solidarity movement, said, 'Mass coup cannot be done at will. A mass uprising has certain historical conditions, it matures and takes place within a society. But the ground is made. However, all the conditions needed for a popular uprising were being created. This student movement was created in that process. Students and a large community joined in that movement and made this movement a success. produced a historic coup. All anti-fascist forces must agree on the location of our goal. So that we do not deviate from the goal, do not do anything that hinders our goal achievement.'

Chairman of Bangladesh LDP Shahadat Hossain Salim said, 'Reformation will continue till doomsday. Reforms will continue as long as the state exists. You can't do all the reforms. So the steps to create a deadlock around Chuppu, we think it's a conspiracy, a conspiracy'.

General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Haque presided over and moderated by Central Member Akbar Khan, the convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Presidium member of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ashraf Ali Akand, General Secretary of JSD Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan and others spoke at the meeting.
