Jamaat will agree on the new proposal for the presidential election

Bangladesh Jamaat -e -Islami welcomed the electoral system proposal in the presidential election. However, they have given conditions – if the proposal is implemented, the local government elections must be under the caretaker government.

The party's deputy Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher made the remarks after the second phase of dialogue with the National Unity Commission at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Wednesday (June 5th).

He said that according to the National consensus commission's proposal – if the presidential election is held by the vote of 1,000 public representatives, then those representatives will have to be elected neutral. As we have seen in the past, the representatives of the ruling party were elected more in the local government elections under the government. So we have said that the local government elections should be under the Caretaker government, where members will be elected through the fair election.

He also said that the range of voters will be up to the UP member, or whether the UP chairman will be limited, there is also discussion. However, in principle we support this proposal, if elections are the neutrality.

Regarding the formation of the National Constitutional Council (NCC), the Jamaat leader said that most political parties have agreed in principle with the NCC. However, its structure and procedure are still discussed.

Abdullah Mohammad Taher, proposing a referendum on the issue of non -consensus, said the decisions should be taken through a referendum by putting them in front of the people with notes. The people will give the final verdict.

“We hope that a joint charter (certificate) will be created through discussion, so that all political parties will sign.” Whatever the government comes to power, everyone has to comply with that commitment.

Representatives of various political parties including BNP, Jamaat -e -Islami, NCP, Islamic Movement, Civil Unity, CPB, AB Party, Revolutionary Workers Party, People's Rights Council, People's Solidarity Movement participated in Wednesday's discussion.

The main topic of the day's dialogue was the National Constitutional Council (NCC), the presidential election process and the settlement of the previous unfinished issues.
