The last election of Dhaka University Central Student Council (DACSU) was held in 2019. After that there is no election for 5 years. After the fall of the dictatorship in the popular coup of July-August, the demand for Daksu elections has come from among the students. Starting from anti-discrimination student movement, students' camps, left-wing student organizations also want Daksu elections as soon as possible. However, the nationalist student party has been excluded. General students along with the anti-discrimination student movement have come face to face with Chhatra Dal.
The Chhatra Dal leaders and activists engaged in an argument with the Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan on the demand that no decision should be taken on Daksu in the Syndicate meeting held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University on Thursday. Later in the night, anti-discrimination student movement leaders and ordinary students marched on the campus accusing the university vice-chancellor of 'argument' and 'arguing with the Daksu'. Students of various departments of the university including Abdul Quader, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement, Mahin Sarkar, Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury, activist Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad, AB Zobair were present there. At the end of the rally, they demanded to announce the road map of Daksur within 72 hours.
However, several leaders of the Chhatra Dal told Ajker Patrika, “The leaders and workers of the camp created a mob and marched against the Chhatra Dal using the students.” The president of the branch student camp SM Farhad said that the allegations of the Chhatra Dal leaders are not true. He told this newspaper, 'There was no organized march of the student camp on Thursday night. A group of university students marched to demand Daksu. I saw that on social media.' Farhad also said that various proposals have already been given by the student camp, including the reform of Daksur policies. Other student organizations have also given. After the necessary reforms, Daksu elections should be held by February.
Abdul Quader, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, told Ajker newspaper, 'Daksu election is a demand for the life of the students of Dhaka University. Dhaka University has a platform for teachers, employees, but there is no platform to talk about the demands of students. The university has five halls for female students; But there are more students. They are being deprived of their rights, demanding the lives of students at that place, organizing Daksu elections.'
Abdul Quader also said that now when the Daksu election is being talked about, those who want to take the students back to the life of slavery, want to establish public room-guestroom culture, want to create a political unstable situation, the news of the Daksu election is burning them. They harass the teacher, harass the administration. The students of this institution are with the work that the university administration has started with Daksu.
Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury, who joined the march on campus last Thursday, is also the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and is also associated with a platform called Ektar Bangladesh. He said, 'currently there is no representative of the students, so our demand is to make the necessary reforms and give Daksu elections as soon as possible. Because, if students take any demand now, it is called mob. We don't want that.' He also said, 'There is no election by maintaining the current syndicate, such things are being said by Chhatra Dal. In fact, there is no feasibility of such a statement. Now if teachers' representatives are taken in the syndicate by election again, Awami supporters will win there. I demand to announce the road map of Daksu election as soon as possible as per the demands of the students, keeping Awami Dosars away.
Activist Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad told Ajker newspaper that various conspiracies are being observed regarding Daksu elections. The Chhatra Dal is opposing the Daksu elections by publicly declaring. But the students demand to announce the election roadmap as soon as possible. The necessary reforms in Daksur's constitution are usually included in the roadmap. In this situation, if the roadmap for Daksu elections is not announced within 72 hours, then the students will be forced to resort to strict programs.
Left-wing student organizations demanded Daksu elections to be held as soon as possible by revising the Daksu constitution and canceling undemocratic clauses. Salman Siddiqui, the president of Samajtantrik Chhatra Jot, the organizer of the Democratic Student Union, told Ajker Patrika, 'The education environment and democratic process in Dhaka University is being disrupted due to the closure of DACSU for a long time. After the fall of the fascist Awami government on August 5, the desire to establish various institutions on a democratic basis has been strong. As a part of this, DACSU elections should be started immediately. A democratic atmosphere must be ensured in the campus before the Daksu elections, so that all student organizations can campaign equally. Before the elections, the constitution of Daksur should be revised and the undemocratic clauses should be abolished in consultation with the student organizations.
4 leaders of Chhatra Dal are mourned
Meanwhile, 4 Chhatra Dal leaders have been given a show-cause notice for allegedly engaging in a brawl with the vice-chancellor yesterday. The leaders who received the notice are Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall Branch Publicity Secretary Mansoor Ahmed Rafi, Vijay Ektar Hall Branch Office Secretary Sakib Biswas, Masterda Surya Sen Hall Branch Literature and Publication Secretary Md. Abidur Rahman Mishu, Vijay Ekatar Hall Chhatra Dal Deputy Secretary Sultan Md. Salman Siddique.
Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary of the branch Chhatra Dal, alleged that a group is trying to tarnish its image by spreading false propaganda against the Chhatra Dal. He said, 'Students consider the Daksu election as a demand for their lives. In regular discussions with the university administration, DACSU has repeatedly demanded reforms and elections. In that context, DAKSU has invited suggestions from all stakeholders, including student organizations, regarding the reform of the constitution. The university also welcomes their initiative and is in a spirit of maximum cooperation for proper reforms of DACSU and regular elections through regular discussions. Still, the image of the Chhatra Dal is being tarnished by propaganda against it.
