A revolutionary government was not formed on the strength of a popular upheaval: National Liberation Council

National Liberation Council general secretary Faizul Hakim has commented that the interim revolutionary government was not formed after the popular uprising in the country. He said, 'The interim revolutionary government was not formed on the strength of the popular uprising. As a result, Sheikh Hasina was able to escape, she was allowed to escape.

Faizul Hakeem said these things at the main discussion meeting 'Sfulinga to Dabanal-July Mass Uprising' organized by the National Liberation Council at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall at the National Press Club on Friday.

Family members of the martyred and injured people commemorated in the event. National Liberation Council President Comrade Badruddin Umar was supposed to be present but he did not come.

Faizul Hakim said, 'Many Awami League minister-MPs who are enemies of the people, friends of fascism, murderers have fled after the August 5 coup. How did they escape, who helped them escape—have they been identified?'

Stating that there is no representative of the working people in the interim government, the leader of the National Liberation Council said, 'If this government was formed on the strength of the people's uprising, those who died in this struggle, those who built resistance, especially the poor people, the working people, the hardworking people, would have a representation. But as we have seen, the interim government has been established here through the people's coup. But until now the working people are looking for a way of liberation.'

Regarding the constitution, Faizul Hakim said, 'There have been many movements in this town. If you read the constitution, it seems that there was a movement only during the Pakistan era. Open the pages of history, see how many peasant revolts against the British colonial rule, how many fakir-monk revolts, Titumir's revolt! The struggle against British imperialism cannot be understood by reading this constitution. We call for a new democratic constitution. Constituent assembly elections should be held. People should be given equal rights irrespective of caste-religion-caste.'

President of Bangladesh Students Federation Mitu Sarkar, President of Bangladesh Writers' Camp Moinuddin Ahmed and others also spoke on the occasion.
