Statement on the occasion of the month of victory ousted Awami League. The statement signed by AFM Bahauddin Nashim, joint general secretary of the party, has been uploaded on the verified Facebook page of Awami League. The statement demanded the withdrawal of 'harassment and false cases' in the name of party president Sheikh Hasina and other political leaders and activists. At the same time, the release of all arrested political leaders and activists has been demanded.
In the statement, Bahauddin Nashim said, 'The journey of December, the month of victory, begins from Sunday. In this month, the undisputed leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the Bengali nation, achieved a glorious victory. On December 16, 1971, the Bengali nation broke the chains of a thousand years of subjugation and gained independence by defeating the Pakistani invaders in a bloody struggle. The independent state of Bangladesh came into being after breaking the shackles of the occupying Pakistani colonialism. On this auspicious occasion of the month of victory, we on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League pay our deepest respect to the 30 lakh martyrs and 2 lakh mothers and sisters of the glorious liberation war.'
He said, 'The Bengali nation, persecuted and oppressed for a long time, got the taste of liberation that it always wanted through an incomparable struggle. In just three and a half years, Bangabandhu transformed a war-torn country into a functioning state and made it a center of interest in the international arena. On August 15, 1975, Bangladesh was taken backwards by killing the father of the nation in his family.
Awami League's joint general secretary said in the statement, 'How difficult it was to build a war-torn country can be understood by looking at today's Bangladesh. The undemocratic government is destroying Bangladesh in a well-planned manner by occupying power illegally. Entire Bangladesh has been systematically immersed in a culture of hate production. Communal harmony has been destroyed.'
He complained and said, 'Hindu-Buddhist-Christian and other communities and ethnic groups' houses, offices and courts are being attacked, vandalized, looted and set on fire. People are being killed indiscriminately. Mistrust and hatred are being spread by creating division among people. As a part of meticulous design, politically motivated, harassing false, fabricated and baseless cases are being given against progressive people who believe in the spirit of liberation war including Sheikh Hasina. Awami League leaders and activists are being arrested arbitrarily. In the month of victory, I demand the withdrawal of harassing false cases against people's leader Sheikh Hasina, leaders of Awami League and central 14 parties and other political leaders and activists and the unconditional release of all political leaders and activists including royal prisoners.
Claiming that no people of the country wanted this Bangladesh, this Awami League leader said, 'People from different classes and professions of the society say that they have not seen this unprecedented scene in the 53 years of independence. It is as if Bangladesh is running on the back of a strange camel, which is active in establishing an ideology contrary to the aspirations of our liberation war. In the month of victory, inspired by the spirit of the liberation war, I am calling on the entire countrymen, including people with progressive non-communal attitudes, to unite and stop this evil attempt.
