Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of BNP's standing committee, commented that it will not be sustainable if Awami League is rejected by voting in any other way. He said, 'If you want to cancel the Awami League in any other way, they will not survive. Awami League should be canceled through people's vote.
He said this at a round table meeting titled 'Take Back Bangladesh: Citizen Thought' organized by Voice for Democracy and Voter Rights at Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of National Press Club on Tuesday.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, 'We all brought down Hasina, now we all have to build a country together. BNP is not only revolution, BNP solidarity. BNP is talking about nationalism in Bangladesh through national unity. What we establish through national unity will remain.'
He also said, 'If you want to cancel the Awami League in any other way, they don't last. Awami League should be canceled through people's vote. Cancel the fascist by voting, defeating the extreme. Canceling in any other way does not bring benefits.'
Pointing out that the narrative that is being created by keeping the people out is not acceptable to the nation, this BNP leader said, 'After independence, Sheikh Mujib had a narrative, dictatorship had a narrative and the fascist Sheikh Hasina had a narrative. Fascist Sheikh Hasina said – democracy over development. But development has to go hand in hand with democracy. Development without democracy will lead to looting and money laundering. Development without democracy leads to pocket development. Now the only statement will be – to return the ownership of the country to the people through elections. I don't want to hear new statements beyond that.'
Regarding reforms, he said, 'Reforms should be implemented on the basis of national consensus. Reforms will be done with people's trust. That is only possible through an elected government. An unelected government has no opportunity to reform their own thinking and philosophy. We have no objection to implement the reforms that are agreed upon.'
BNP pledged to implement 31-point reforms, Amir Khosru further said, 'BNP has turned into pure gold after burning in 16 years. BNP has become the new BNP through sacrifice and oppression. BNP leaders and workers have learned to sacrifice, learn to give blood and learn to give life. We will not stop the fight for democracy, fight for human rights and the fight to get voting rights back.'
Pointing out that there has been a change in the mentality of the people of the country after Hasina fled the country, he said, 'Political parties and individuals who cannot understand the mindset of the people will not be able to advance far. We want to build an independent humanitarian Bangladesh. The country should be brought back on the right track.'
Voice for Democracy and Voter Rights Convener Mustafa Kamal Majumdar chaired the event and BNP executive committee member Abu Nasser Rahmatullah and others were also present at the time.
Apart from this, the main article was presented in the program by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, former assistant professor Dr. M Mujibur Rahman.
