Veteran lawyer ZI Khan Panna wants to fight the legal battle on behalf of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Criminal Tribunal. He said, 'I will stand for Sheikh Hasina if given the opportunity.' He said this in front of the journalist on Thursday (November 21) in the court premises.
A journalist then asked, 'In the past you have criticized various activities of the Sheikh Hasina government. Now wants to fight for him. Does this conflict with your previous position?'
In reply ZI Khan Panna said, 'Definitely contradictory. But every human being is entitled to legal benefits. I have expressed my interest to fight for Sheikh Hasina considering the humanitarian aspect. But I am against the death penalty as a punishment for any crime.'
Pointing out that the number of cases of mass murder has increased relatively than any time in the past, he said, 'Earlier there were mass arrests, now there are mass cases. If there is a mass case, there will be a mass arrest later. I was once a victim of it. However, the unimaginable mass case is going on. This has never happened before. In the same script, an eye is lost, or a leg is lost, or one is shot, but hundreds of people are being sued for this.'
Regarding the election, he said, 'The primary and only responsibility of this interim government is to hold a fair election. Also transfer power to that government in a democratic manner. It is not the responsibility of this government to reform, but it has the responsibility of giving fair elections.
The Appellate Division suspended the bail granted by the High Court to the former Additional Attorney General Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury in the case filed on the charge of murder in the July-August incident. The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed gave this order.
