The Advisory Council has approved the draft of the 'International Crimes Tribunal Ordinance, 2024', which would allow the tribunal to recommend punitive measures against political parties involved in crimes against humanity.
This approval was given in the advisory council meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday (November 20). Chief advisor. Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.
An adviser present at the meeting said this on condition of anonymity.
The Ordinance was brought by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law amending the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) Act, 1973.
Adviser on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Asif Nazrul told reporters on Tuesday about the draft ordinance that if the court thinks so, it can recommend to the relevant authorities to take disciplinary action against the criminal political party. There is the Ministry of Home Affairs, there is the Election Commission. If the court thinks they can do that. But will punish, not so. Such recommendations are contained in the Ordinance.
The Legal Adviser also said that the International Criminal Tribunal Ordinance would be promulgated by Thursday (November 21) if approved by the Advisory Council.
The first meeting of the advisory council of the interim government was held at the secretariat at around 11 o'clock on Wednesday. It was joined by the chief adviser. This is the Chief Adviser's first Secretariat office after assuming charge.
Tight security arrangements were made at the Secretariat for the meeting of the Advisory Council and the arrival of the Chief Adviser.
