The government has extended the powers of the Special Executive Magistrate to the armed forces by another two months (60 days). This magisterial power is given to commissioned officers of the rank of captains of the armed forces and above. The order was announced on Friday (15 November) in a notification signed by Jeti Pru, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration's Post-2 Wing.
The order also covers Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and equivalent officers posted in Coast Guard. Earlier, on September 17, a notification was issued giving two months or 60 days of magisterial powers to armed forces personnel deployed across the country.
The notification issued by the Public Administration on Friday (November 15) said that this order issued by the President in the interest of the public will be effective immediately. It further states that the powers of the Special Executive Magistrate have been delegated to the State and in the period specified in Sections 12(1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Captains of the armed forces and commissioned officers of equivalent rank throughout the country are under 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133 and 142 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898. They can carry out activities to control the crime of the section.

The 60 days given in the first phase ends on Saturday (November 16). The government has already extended its term.
