The ICSC member is the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations


Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN) has been elected as a member of the prestigious International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) in a competitive election held on Friday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Three candidates from Bangladesh, China and the Republic of Korea vied for the two vacant seats in the Asia-Pacific region.

A press release received here today informed that the candidates of Bangladesh and China have won the elections.

After being selected, Ambassador Muhith said, 'Under the leadership of Honorable Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the UN member states have chosen Bangladesh 2.0 and through this have recognized the active role and contribution of Bangladesh in the United Nations. And this is proof of faith and trust.

He will serve as a member of ICSC for 4 years from 2025 to 2028.

The ICSC is an independent expert body established by the United Nations General Assembly consisting of 15 members.

It is the principal body mandated to make and recommend decisions on human resource management, compensation and entitlements of the United Nations.

A professional diplomat, Ambassador Muhith joined the United Nations as the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in July 2022.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee) of UNGA and also as the President of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board for 2024.

Ambassador Muhith also served as Chairman of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2022, Vice-Chairman of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2023, President of the UN-Women Executive Board and Vice-President of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
