The Election Commission (EC) will resume the distribution of national identity card (smart card) from next April after the voter list is updated. Currently, smart card distribution has been temporarily closed during the updated activities, sources said.
According to the EC's monthly coordination meeting recently, the second phase of the IDEA project (Identification System for Enhanceing Access to Services), Brigadier General Mohammad Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, said at the meeting that the updated activities were being completed. In addition, EC's technical equipment is now being used in the update process.
This program will be possible to strengthen the smart card distribution program after the end of April 7. After the ongoing updated program, the distribution of smart cards printed from the third week of April will have to be arranged.
EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Nawaz said that the voter list is currently updated on the field. Smart card distribution activities will be resumed when this program is completed.
