The government has formed a selection committee to recommend the appointment of the chairman and commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The president of this committee of five members is Justice Md. Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. Rezaul Haque
On Sunday (November 10), the Cabinet Department issued an order forming the selection committee.
As per the 'Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004', the Commission is constituted of three Commissioners. One of them became the chairman. The tenure of commissioners is five years.
On October 29, Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and Commissioner (Investigation) Md. Zahurul Haque and Commissioner (Research) Achia Khatun resigned. All were appointed during the Awami League government. The Awami League government collapsed on August 5 in a mass uprising by the students. Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and fled to India.
According to the order of formation of the selection committee, this selection committee has been formed according to section 7 of the 'Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004' to recommend the appointment of the chairman and commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
As a member of the committee – Justice Farah Mahbub of the High Court Division, Auditor General and Controller of Bangladesh. Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Public Works Commission (PSC) Chairman Prof. Dr. Mobashwer Monem and Md. Mahbub Hossain (latest retired Cabinet Secretary).
The Selection Committee will prepare a list of names of 2 persons against each vacant post of Commissioner based on the decision of at least 3 members present to recommend the appointment of Commissioner. The order then mentions that it will be sent to the President for appointment under Section 6 of the Act.
The presence of at least 4 members shall constitute the quorum of the selection committee. The Cabinet Department will provide necessary secretarial support in the performance of this selection committee.
