Remains of 'Harish Chowdhury' to confirm identity


Savar (Dhaka): BNP leader Harich Chowdhury's daughter Samira Tanjim Chowdhury wants to unravel the mystery of his death. Harish Chowdhury's remains have been collected from his grave following the writ petition for burial with due respect along with DNA test, death certificate to prove his identity.

On Wednesday (October 16) morning, the remains of Harish Chowdhury were collected from Khatamun Nabiin's Jamia Khatamun Cemetery in Savar's Birulia area. Although he was buried in this cemetery under the name of Mahamudur Rahman. Earlier, SM Russell Islam Noor was appointed as a magistrate to collect the remains of Harish Chowdhury from the grave on October 8 as per the directions of the High Court.

Acting Magistrate SM Russel Islam Noor said that the court appointed him as the magistrate to exhume the remains of Harish Chowdhury from his grave. According to the direction of the court, the remains were collected from a grave named Mahamudur Rahman this morning The DNA of the remains will be tested as per the court's direction. I followed the court's instructions in coordination with the law enforcement agencies.

After searching, it is known that Harish Chowdhury is a character who was discussed during the BNP Jamaat government. Harish was the political secretary of the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. When the political context changed in One Eleven, Harich Chowdhury could no longer be found. However, about a year ago, the name of Harich Chowdhury suddenly came into discussion. It was also spread in the media that Harich Chowdhury was hiding his identity in a house on Panthpath in the capital. He died in Dhaka. His body was buried in Jamia Khatamun Cemetery of Khatamun Nabiin in Savar Jamin in return for a large donation. However, he was buried under the name of Mahamudur Rahman. Therefore, when the daughter Samira Tanjim Chowdhury applied for a writ in the High Court to identify the identity of the father, the High Court gave instructions to exhume the remains or the dead body from that grave today.

According to the instructions to exhume the body, Harish Chowdhury's daughter Samira Tanjim filed a writ petition in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court. In the petition, the father Harish Chowdhury has been buried under the name of Mahamudur Rahman in Jamia Khatamun Cemetery of Khatamun Nabiin on bail. As a result, Harish Chowdhury's daughter requested DNA test, death certificate, name deletion from Interpol red notice and bury him with due respect as a freedom fighter in his district.

Incidentally, on September 5, Harish Chowdhury's body was removed from the grave and the High Court ordered a DNA test. A High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Mahbubul Islam gave the order. The court gave this order after hearing the writ petition of Harish Chowdhury's daughter Barrister Samira Tanjim Chowdhury. Barrister Mahdin Chowdhury heard on behalf of the writ in the court.
