The Public Administration Reform Commission will recommend to the government to change the names of the posts of 'district administrator' and 'cadre', said Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary of the public administration ministry and member secretary of the commission.
He told reporters after the Public Administration Reform Commission meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday (December 01). At that time, the head of the commission Abdul Mueed Chowdhury was also present.
Mokhles ur Rahman said, 'We had certain questions there. The ones we got are about the administration. BCS, which we call Bangladesh Civil Service, is considered cadre for many reasons. Many have a negativity associated with the word 'cadre'. One of the many reform proposals of the Public Administration Reforms Commission will be to drop the term cadre. Instead of which the service ie, Civil Service (Administration), Civil Service (Health), Civil Service (Agriculture) – will be written like this.'
In response to a question about changing the name of 'District Administrator', Senior Secretary Mokhles Ur Rahman said, 'Many people have said about changing the name of District Administrator whether it can be called public service instead of public administration. District Commissioner is a British era creation and the word has many synonyms. Collector, District Administrator, District Magistrate. We will make some suggestions on alternative names, from which the government takes. The government will take what you want.'
He also said, 'We saw while doing the tour, people wanted to speak their mind. People have a very negative perception about some offices. You know them, I know them. do not want to mention Still, one or two things have to be said. People have a very bad idea about Aceland Office, Registry Office.'
Mokhles Ur Rahman said, people want change. This government has come for that change. They are working to change that. He also said that already one lakh people have answered the questions of the Public Administration Reform Commission online.
Mokhles ur Rahman also commented that people's hearts and minds have to be changed and many more positive changes will be seen in the future.
