Police are listing 'special' of Awami League leaders and activists

The police authorities are preparing a 'special' list of leaders and activists of the ousted Awami League and its fraternal and allied organizations who were arrested in various cases and the arrested. District Intelligence Police (DB) and Special Branch (DSB) members of the police are doing the work under the direction of the police headquarters. According to sources, the list is being prepared centrally to prevent the arrest of the accused and arrested the accused in the legal process of the accused.

The list of police under the police contains cases against the leaders and activists of the Awami League and allied organizations, national identity card numbers and mobile phone number. The prosecution also plans to oppose their bail. The information has been confirmed by the police headquarters, several district police officers and public prosecutors.

About 2,000 cases have been filed across the country in connection with the violence that took place in July-August after the fall of the Awami League government. The cases were filed from August 1 to February 7, 2012, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in the mass uprising. Among the accused are former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, many former Awami League ministers-MPs, leaders and activists of the grassroots up to the grassroots.

The accused in the cases are about 1 lakh 20 thousand. Most of them have been charged with murder. Many of the accused have been arrested but have been released on bail after some time in jail, court and police sources said.

Till February 7, at least 120 accused were granted bail out of the accused in the 24 cases identified as 'important case' to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The number of bail in these cases is increasing in different districts and metropolis. The new arrest rate of the absconding accused is also lower.

The police headquarters have been directed to increase the alerts of the SPs and metropolitan commissioners of the district as well as arrest those involved in the violence. The accused and jail accused have been asked to collect the number of cases, complaints, national identity card numbers and mobile numbers. At the same time, the court has been instructed to oppose bail in coordination with the public prosecutor.

According to court sources in Dhaka, the influential people, who are close to the Hasina government, have been released on bail, along with local leaders and activists. Among them are former Whip ASM Firoz, former minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, former state minister Mahbub Ali, acting president of Jubo League Anwarul Islam, former Jubo League Presidium member Mojibur Rahman, former MP Golam Kibria Tipu, MP Job Kibia Tipu.

A district inspector (detective) of the Rajshahi Range said that in addition to making the list of the accused, the arrest of the Awami League leaders and activists of the police station is being emphasized and legal action against them.

An official of the headquarters, who did not want to be named, said that despite widespread arrests in the beginning, many have now gone into hiding or migrating out of the country. In addition, many of the arrests are coming out on bail, which has caused the government's high palace concern.

Asked about the initiative, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Spokesperson) Inamul Haque Sagar told today's newspaper that after any case, the investigation of the accused and making the list is the rules of the police. It could have been done as part of that.

Omar Farooq Farooqi, a public prosecutor of the Dhaka court, said the prosecution was opposed to the bail of the accused in each case. However, in some cases, bail opportunities are being created considering the age, investigating officer report, planning, illness and party identity. Advocate Farooqi alleged that many times the investigating officers compromised on the accused and submitted a plain report to the accused, so that it would be easy to get bail.

Officials of the police headquarters say the arrest and bail of the accused are being investigated by the government's high palaces, considering the gaps and potential irregularities in the process. This list of police is part of that activity.

Asked about the matter, Assistant Professor of Social Welfare and Research of Dhaka University and researcher on social and crime. Touhidul Haque said the accused has the right to get bail. However, they have to see if they are getting bail in any case and whether they are being granted bail to give any special benefits.
