Sylhet: New gas found in two levels in oil well at Jaintapur, Sylhet. This gas was found while renovating the Sylhet-7 old gas well in Haripur of the upazila, said the concerned.
On Tuesday (October 22), the Sylhet Gas Field Limited authorities confirmed the discovery of gas at a depth of 1,200 meters after two rounds of testing.

On October 14, 7 million cubic feet of gas was found after testing at a depth of 2,010 meters. On Tuesday, another 8 million cubic feet of gas was found at a depth of 1,200 meters in that well. Gas extraction will continue for one more week as a test. After this, 7/8 million cubic feet of gas per day can be supplied to the national grid within a month.
He also said that in 1986 oil extraction started in Haripur Sylhet-7 well of Jaintapur. Oil was extracted till 1994. After that, when oil production stops, gas is extracted from that well. This time gas was found in two layers. So far 130 million cubic feet of gas has been supplied to the national grid from Sylhet.
