In a press briefing regarding the activities of the army deployed under 'In Aid to Civil Power' today, Colonel Staff of the Headquarters Intekhab Haider Khan said this. This briefing was held at Senasadar.
So far, the Army has recovered more than 6,000 illegal weapons from across the country. It is reported that 2 thousand 500 people have been arrested at this time.
Colonel Intekhab Haider Khan said in a written statement, 'Army is engaged to assist the law and order forces to stabilize the situation. In carrying out this duty, the army is performing duties besides protecting people's property, critical state installations (KPIs) and important public and private institutions – helping the police force to become functional again. Apart from this, ensuring the security of foreign embassies, industrial areas and helping to keep factories running.
Colonel Staff of the headquarters said, “The army has controlled more than seven hundred incidents so far. By doing this, it has been possible to keep all the more than two thousand ready-made garment factories in the country operational.
In response to a question, Colonel Staff of the military headquarters said, “The army is very aware of human rights violations or preventing extrajudicial killings.” We have orders from the highest leadership in this regard.'
In response to a question about Major Ziaul Haque Zia, dismissed and absconding on charges of militant affiliation, he said, “The army does not have any information on this at the moment.”
When asked about the role of the army in traffic management, Colonel Intekhab Haider Khan said, 'In the current situation of the country, a lot of work has to be done with priority to maintain law and order. In that case, the issue of trafficking did not come up.'
Regarding the death in custody, Colonel Staff of the headquarters said, “If ever such allegations are received, the army will investigate and take action.”
In response to a question about the recovery of the looted weapons of the SSF, apart from the recovery of the stolen weapons and ammunition of the police, the Colonel Staff of the headquarters said, 'The heavy weapons of the SSF have not been lost. Some pistols are lost. The search is on. And several weapons lost by the police have been recovered.'
