There is tension between the two countries over the vandalism of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner's office in Agartala, India. Due to this tension, the interim government is careful not to attack the Indian High Commission or any other establishment in Bangladesh. Already, special instructions have been given to the law and order forces from the higher level of the government. Special security has been strengthened at the Indian High Commission's visa centers across the country, including the capital Dhaka.
At the same time, necessary security measures have been strengthened to prevent any attack on Indian citizens and Hindu community working or living in Bangladesh. Law and order forces are also on alert to prevent any untoward incident at any Hindu place of worship.
AIG (Media) of Police Headquarters Inamul Haque Sagar told Bangla Tribune, “Necessary security measures have been strengthened so that no untoward incident happens anywhere in the country, including the capital Dhaka.”
Those concerned say that the Indian government is under some pressure in the Agartala incident amid the ongoing deterioration of India-Bangladesh diplomatic relations. If something like that happens in Bangladesh at this moment, then India's pressure will be reduced. Rather, the Indians will inflate the event. Because of this, the current interim government of Bangladesh is 'handling' the issue with more caution and importance.
Those concerned said that extensive security measures have been strengthened in the Indian High Commission area in Baridhara of the capital Dhaka. Several times more law enforcement personnel have been deployed than the normal security. Army personnel are also doing their duty to avoid any untoward incident. Army armored vehicles are deployed in front of the Indian High Commission in Baridhara. Besides, security has also been increased at other Indian establishments in Dhaka, including the Indian Visa Center at Jamuna Future Park.
An Additional Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police told Bangla Tribune that the security system has been strengthened several times more than required. Additional police were seen deployed in front of the Indian Assistant High Commission on Zakir Hossain Road of Khulshi Police Station in Chittagong. Besides, security has also been increased at the Indian Visa Application Center in the City Center on CDA Avenue in East Nasirabad.
Officials of the law and order forces said that the Indian Assistant High Commissioner's office in Rajshahi's Sapura suburb, the Assistant High Commissioner's office in Jalil Sarani on Boyra College Road in Khulna, and the Assistant High Commissioner's office in Sylhet's Shahjalal suburb have also been strengthened.
According to sources, apart from the Assistant High Commissioner's office, security has also been strengthened at Indian visa centers. Apart from the capital Dhaka, there are 15 other visa centers in various metropolitan areas and districts. These are – Visa centers at Barisal, Jessore, Satkhira, Chittagong, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Kushtia, Khulna and Sylhet. Strict security measures have been taken at these visa centers.
According to a law enforcement source, there are fears of new attacks on Hindus, places of worship, other structures, and Indian citizens based on the recent issue. Third parties can also take advantage of this opportunity to gain political advantage—for which advance security measures have been strengthened.
According to law enforcement sources, the government has discussed with the leaders of various organizations so that no one should go to the High Commission or visa center area under any organizational banner even though the students and crowd of Bangladesh protested in Agartala. The organizations have been able to convince the government that Bangladesh may come under international pressure again.
Protests by political parties in statements, programs ‘warning’
The politics of Bangladesh is heated around the attack on the Bangladesh mission in Agartala, India, Mamata Banerjee's comments and the spread of various rumors about Bangladesh in the country. On Tuesday (December 3), several organizations protested at the National Press Club and Baitul Mokarram in Dhaka. Among them, Islamic Movement, AB Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis are notable.
A protest march was held in Nayapaltan under the leadership of BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed this afternoon. Although there is a question whether BNP will give any central program on this issue.
Political parties are careful to keep the people of Bangladesh calm and prevent violence in response, especially on the India issue. Meanwhile, on Monday and Tuesday, most of the country's political parties protested India's statement.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat Secretary Mia Golam Parwar protested the statement. Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman requested the public to remain calm.
In this context, the president of Nagrik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, 'They (India) will respect the democratic aspirations of new Bangladesh. We do not want enmity with neighboring countries. But we will not make any concessions to protect our sovereignty, to protect the rights of the people of the country.
Responsible sources of BNP say that the leaders are thinking about what is the politics behind this tension between Bangladesh and India. After the change of government on August 5, the normal relations with the country have been somewhat interrupted, but the leaders are worried about the attack on the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala on Monday (December 2). BNP is in favor of monitoring the matter more deeply.
