India has spoken to the Trump administration regarding Bangladesh

India has discussed the situation in Bangladesh with the US administration led by Donald Trump. India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said this at a press conference in Washington on Wednesday (January 22).

Jaishankar visited Washington to attend Trump's swearing-in ceremony as President.

Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz on Wednesday.

In response to a question whether Bangladesh was discussed there, India's foreign minister told reporters, 'Yes, we had a brief discussion on Bangladesh.' However, Jaishankar refused to elaborate on this matter.

Sheikh Hasina 'resigned' as the Prime Minister in the face of the student uprising and went to Delhi on August 5. On August 8, Dr. An interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus took over. The government has issued a diplomatic letter to India seeking the return of Sheikh Hasina to face trial in the case of her involvement in various crimes including genocide and crimes against humanity. All in all, there is an uncomfortable situation between the two countries.

In such a situation, the diplomats of Bangladesh feel that there is a diplomatic significance of India's talks with the United States on the issue of Bangladesh in the regional political context.
