Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said that the government is making such efforts that the people can eat hilsa fish, so that it can be kept within their purchasing limit. He said, this is a very small initiative, I know you all will not be satisfied. We will be limited to this, we will try to do more.
He said these things at the opening ceremony of the 'Hilsa fish sale at reduced prices to remove existing obstacles in the supply and value chain of hilsa fish' in front of the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) building in Kawran Bazaar of the capital on Sunday (January 19).
This information has been informed in the press release sent by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
At that time, the advisor said, it is possible to reduce the price of hilsa if the middlemen in the market are reduced. He also said that it is difficult to reduce the price of hilsa and other fish in the market system. But we want to prove that if we bring the fish directly from the source to the point of sale, then it is possible to reduce the price. We want to start the process of de-intermediating the market.
Chairperson of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Suraiya Akhtar Jahan, President of Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Association Enam Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syeda Nawara Jahan, Director of BFDC Advait Chandra Das and others were present in the event. Later the advisor participated in an exchange meeting with the officials of BFDC.
It should be mentioned that Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) and Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Association are working jointly to implement Hilsa fish marketing program. The slogan of this program has been set as 'Incomparable in taste and smell – buy hilsa and be blessed'. In the low price hilsa sale program, hilsa weighing 450 grams to 850 grams is being sold at Tk 600 per kg. After the inauguration, 20 buyers got the opportunity to buy fish from the fisheries and livestock advisers.
At this time, the buyers said that they did not remember the last time they bought hilsa because the price was too high in the market. Now they are happy to buy hilsa at a low price.
