Government will not tolerate attacks on shrines and cultural events: Farooqui

The interim government will not tolerate attacks on cultural events including shrines, Baul Sangeet and Qawwali songs. Cultural Affairs Adviser Mustafa Sarwar Faruqi said this at an event in Dhaka today.

The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka at the Gulshan Society Lake Park as part of the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China.

The adviser said, 'Mazar or Baul music, qawwali songs are being attacked somewhere. Not everywhere. Even in one place we will not tolerate, our position is very clear. No tolerance will be shown in this regard.'

Clearing the government's stance on arts and culture, Faruqi said Shilpakala Academy is organizing many events every month. There were 12 sadhu fairs in this month. Next month will be double, ie 24 sadhu fairs. It is a government initiative. Apart from this, there will be private initiatives.

In the new Bangladesh's progress, China will be found more and more as a development partner.

BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moin Khan and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen among others participated in the discussion.
