After canceling the new curriculum, revisions are being made in the textbooks as well. Prose-poems of many authors are being omitted from books of various categories, and are being added again. Seven prose and four poems have been omitted from Bengali and English textbooks of class IX-X. The 'Father of the Nation' chapter is being omitted. Adding a new chapter called 'Graffiti'.
National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) sources informed this information. According to the source, Zaheer Raihan's 'Ekush Kahabi' and an anthology of essays on the July Revolution called 'Ur Nawhi Gaurabgantha' are being added to the textbook 'Bangla Sahitya' for classes 9-10.
However, seven prose including Zaheer Raihan's 'Bandh' prose which is already in the book are being omitted. The remaining six prose that were left out are Rabindranath Tagore's 'Denapaona', Motaher Hossain Chowdhury's 'Library', Kabir Chowdhury's 'Poila Baishakh', Selina Hossain's 'Rakte Veja Ekush', Humayun Ahmed's 'Niti' and Dr. 'Information Technology' by Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
However, in the same textbook Rabindranath Tagore's 'Subha' and 'Library' have been kept as before. Apart from this, Motaher Hossain Chowdhury's 'Library' prose is omitted, but his story 'Education and Humanity' is included. And although Humayun Ahmed's prose 'Nyoti' is omitted, his novel '1971' is included in the textbook. Selina Hossain's 'Kaktadua' novel is also being excluded.
On the other hand, four poems are being omitted. However, new poems are not being added. The four poems that have been decided to be excluded are Kazi Nazrul Islam's 'Aaj Srishti-Sukher Ullase', Syed Shamsul Haque's 'Amar Idya', Nirmlendu Guna's 'Freedom, this word is ours,' and Kamal Chowdhury's 'Courageous Janani Bangla'. Two other poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam 'Manush' and 'Umar Farooq' are being kept in the book.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to drop a chapter in the English book 'English for Today' for Class IX-X. That is the 'Father of the Nation' as Unit One. On the other hand, three new chapters on 'Sense of Self', 'Loneliness' and 'Graffiti' written on the July revolution are being added.
NCTB Chairman Professor AKM Riazul Hasan said that party propaganda topics are being omitted from the textbooks. The content of the liberation war is being highlighted. Moreover, it has been decided to add the content of the July People's Uprising to the style of literature. Additionally, the July Mass Uprising graffiti is being added to the back page of the book.
