Election Reform Commission has given the reason for not asking the opinion of 25 parties including A.League

The head of the Electoral System Reform Commission has advised the government to ask the reason for not asking the opinion of 25 parties including Awami League. Badiul Alam Majumdar. Pointing out that the commission has been decided by the government, he said, of course, the intention of the government is very important.

He said these things in an exchange meeting organized by the Reform Commission with journalists who are members of the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) in the meeting room of the election building on Saturday (November 16).

Badiul Alam Majumdar said in response to the question why only 22 parties are asking for proposals for reforming the electoral system, while there are 47 parties, is it not discrimination? You ask the government. We are taking feedback from many. We are the intention of the government… asked the government. We are trying to make a recommendation above all parties and opinions.

If the decision of the government is imposed on your commission, then how will we get reforms – he further said that the government has formed these commissions. The government has set a scope. We have determined what to do. Notification issued. Of course the intention of the government is very important. We are trying to get the opinions of people from all walks of life. Everyone will have an opportunity to give their opinion. Because we have no agenda of our own. We have not come together to protect the interests of any particular party or group for or against anyone. This is our team, we are working hard.

Citizen-Sujan Secretary for good governance said, we will have the opportunity to take the opinions and recommendations of many people. Feedback can be given on website and e-mail. We have come here in a context, the context is – about one and a half thousand lives have been lost. 20, 30 thousand people were injured. We are conducting all these activities standing on their blood. Let us not betray their blood We are committed to repaying their blood debt. We have no political agenda.

Badiul Alam Majumder said, we are not only thinking about the next election. Many injustices and misdeeds have been committed in the past – I will make arrangements to stop them, make the election system effective, and make the democratic system stronger in the long term.

He further said that EVMs were faulty and weak machines. They are probably useless now. Above all, it requires political unity and trust. Politicians will have to decide on this in the future.

RFED President Ekramul Haque Sayem along with other leaders and member journalists and members of Electoral System Reforms Commission were present in the meeting.
