The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh has been formed with transparency, said the United Nations Resident Representative in Dhaka, Gwen Lewis.
On Monday (December 2), the UN resident representative met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Agargaon election building.
Gwen Lewis told reporters that we had an initial meeting with the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner. We have come to support the current Election Commission. Talked with the CEC about what kind of technical assistance the United Nations can provide to organize fair elections.
He said, it is a matter of happiness that the Election Commission has been formed with transparency and will get the support of the interim government to work independently. We will work closely with this commission.
Asked whether there was any discussion about the possible timing of the parliamentary elections, Gwen Lewis said that there was no discussion in today's meeting about the timing of the elections. This decision will be taken by the interim government politically. We have only talked about technical matters.
