Cannot allow militancy under any pretext: Asif Nazrul

Legal adviser Asif Nazrul said that we cannot allow militancy or extremism in any way under any pretext.

He made these comments at a meeting organized in memory of two judges of the District Judge Court, Jagannath Pande and Sohail Ahmed, who were killed in a suicide bomb attack in 2005 at the Judicial Administration Training Institute on Thursday (November 14). The event was organized by the Judicial Service Association.

Secretary of Law and Judiciary Department Sheikh Abu Taher, Registrar General of Supreme Court, District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Acting Director General of Judicial Administration Training Institute Sabbir Faiz and others spoke on the occasion.

Remembering the late two judges. Asif Nazrul said, 'How terrible is militancy. We have two lessons here. Militancy and extremism are terrible things. How irrational and cruel makes people. I don't think anything else in the world can make people so cruel and desperate. Militancy can be of any religion. … It teaches us that we cannot allow militancy, extremism in any way. No excuses. Not at all.'

He also said, 'There are no friendly countries around Bangladesh. They always try to humiliate Bangladesh, exaggerate an incident, conspire about it.'

The legal adviser said, 'If we want the good of the country, want the good of the people, want the good of the society, want the good of friends, want the good of our children, want to protect our country from international conspiracies, want to protect Bangladesh from any other fascism or conspiracy, then we Of course one has to protect one's country from militant radicalism, at any cost. Care must be taken that no one can disrupt the potential of our country, our progress by taking advantage of this, domestic or foreign power.'

Incidentally, on this day in 2005, two judges of the Jhalkathi District Judge Court, Jagannath Pande and Sohail Ahmed, were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a microbus carrying judges. On the day of the incident, on November 14, Judge Sohail Ahmed and Jagannath Pade left their residence and boarded the waiting microbus. Then the microbus stopped in front of the quarters to pick up another judge. The driver left them in the car and went to fetch the judge. At that time, Iftekhar Hasan Mamun, a member of the waiting JMB suicide squad, carried out a suicide bomb attack.

Senior Assistant Judge Sohail Ahmed died on the spot and Senior Assistant Judge Jagannath Pande died on the way to Barisal Sher-i Bangla Medical College Hospital. JMB attacking member Iftekhar Hasan Mamun was caught injured. After that, the top leaders of JMB were arrested one by one when there was a nationwide uproar.

In that case, on May 29, 2006, the court ordered 7 people to be hanged. On March 29, 2007, 6 militants were executed in various prisons of the country.
