Barisal Central Nathullabad Bus Terminal
Barisal's internal route bus workers are on strike to demand stoppage of three-wheeler movement on the highway. On Tuesday (September 10) around 12 noon, the workers at the central Nathullabad bus terminal in Barisal started a strike by stopping the bus service. As a result, commuters on various routes have suffered.
Meanwhile, three-wheeler drivers say that the bus does not leave the stand unless it is full of passengers. That is why passengers travel in vehicles like three wheelers to save time.
Anwar Hossain Howladar, the driver of Bus Saikat Paribahan operating on the internal route, said, 'Three wheelers are running regularly even after the ban on the highway. As a result, accidents often occur on the road. This morning in Nathullabad area, the driver lifted the wheel of the three wheeler on the feet of Ripon, a bus worker. The injured worker was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Hospital. Later some bus workers went to talk to the three wheeler driver. At that time there was a clash between the two sides. Enraged by this, the bus workers of the internal route started a strike.
He also said, 'The strike has started around 12 noon today. This program will continue until the three wheelers are off the road.'
Meanwhile, three-wheeler drivers are unwilling to accept the bus workers' complaints. Khokon, a three-wheeler driver from Nathullabad area, said, 'The bus does not leave the stand unless the passengers are full. So to save time, passengers travel in vehicles like three wheelers.'
Mustafa Kamal, General Secretary of the District Bus Workers' Union, said, 'The issue is being resolved quickly.'
