Professor AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury was elected as the President of Bangladesh on 14 November 2001. However, he resigned from the post of President on 21 June 2002 due to political reasons.
According to family and hospital sources, she was admitted to Uttara Mahila Medical College Hospital on October 2 due to lung infection. His daughter doctor Shayla Chowdhury said that he was already suffering from ischemic heart disease. He was diagnosed with lung infection on Wednesday morning. That day he was admitted to the hospital.
Badruddoja Chowdhury's son politician Mahi B Chowdhury said that his father's dead body was taken to Baridhara house on this day. Badruddoja Chowdhury's body will be taken to Majidpur Dayhata village in Munshiganj's Srinagar tomorrow for the last rites.
Badruddoja Chowdhury was a doctor by profession. He was born on October 11, 1930 in Comilla city. He was always a brilliant student. In 1947 he matriculated in the first division from St. Gregory's in Dhaka and in 1949 he passed ISC in the first division from Dhaka College. He received his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1954-55. He also received degrees from several institutions abroad.
He started politics in 1978 at the request of Ziaur Rahman. He was a minister during the tenure of both Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia. In 1979, he was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Srinagar and served as a Cabinet Minister. He was elected Member of Parliament for the second time in 1991 and became first Minister of Education and then Deputy Leader of Parliament. In 1996, he served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. In 2001, he was the foreign minister of the BNP government from October to November. He was elected as the President of Bangladesh in the same year. Later Badruddoja Chowdhury formed a political party himself.
