Arrest warrant issued against Sheikh Hasina


Personal Correspondent: The International Criminal Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He has been directed to appear before the tribunal by November 18.


An arrest warrant was issued against him on the first day of the trial for the genocide that took place in July and August during the anti-discrimination student movement.


On Thursday (October 17) around 12:30 PM, the International Criminal Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Bench headed by Ghulam Mortuza. The hearing against the rest of the accused is going on in the tribunal.


The then Awami League government formed the International Criminal Tribunal in 2010 to try those accused of crimes against humanity in 1971. The tribunal pronounced punishment against several leaders of Jamaat-BNP and it was executed.


In the meantime, the Awami League government collapsed in the student uprising on August 5. The Awami League government carried out indiscriminate killings to stop the movement of students. About one and a half thousand people lost their lives in this movement. After the end of Hasina government's 15-year rule, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. When the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took charge of the country, it was decided to prosecute the July-August massacre.
