Earlier, in view of the state party's application, the former minister Amir Hossain Amu and Kamrul Islam were ordered to appear before the International Criminal Tribunal on December 4 on charges of genocide in July-August after hearing the matter on Monday (December 2). Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told reporters that the International Criminal Tribunal had issued an arrest warrant against two defendants in a case on October 17. There were 45 accused in total. One of them was former minister Amir Hossain Amu, another was Kamrul Islam. They were arrested while an arrest warrant was issued against these two in the tribunal. They were arrested in a case of Newmarket police station and sent to jail.
He said, we have filed an application in the tribunal to produce them in the tribunal. We read out the allegations against them in the tribunal. The tribunal was satisfied and asked them to appear on December 4.
On October 17, the International Criminal Tribunal issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and 46 people on two charges of 'genocide' in an attempt to suppress the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August.
Amir Hossain Amu and Kamrul Islam are going to be tried by the International Criminal Tribunal for the trial of some of the top leaders of Awami League and allied parties arrested so far. They will be tried in a case filed on charges of crimes against humanity and genocide.
Among them are former ministers Anisul Haque, Farooq Khan, Dr. Deepu Moni, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Shajahan Khan, Golam Dastgir Gazi, former state minister Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, former Prime Minister's advisor Salman F Rahman, Abdur Razzak, Amir Hossain Amu and Kamrul Islam.
