Ambassador Abdul Muhith was elected member of ICSC


Mohammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations, has been elected as a member of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. He will serve as a member of ICSC for four years from 2025 to 2028.

On Saturday (November 9), the United Nations Permanent Mission to Bangladesh informed this information in a press release.

It is learned that three candidates from Bangladesh, China and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) are vying to be elected in the two vacant seats earmarked for the Asia-Pacific region. Among them, the candidates of Bangladesh and China won the election.

According to the notice sent from the office of the permanent representative, after being elected on Friday, the ambassador and permanent representative Muhit said, 'This victory of Bangladesh, the chief adviser Dr. The trust and faith of the UN member states towards Bangladesh 2.0 under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus and the recognition of the active role and contribution of Bangladesh in the United Nations.

The ICSC is an independent commission of experts established by the United Nations General Assembly, consisting of 15 members. The commission makes decisions and recommendations on various issues such as human resource management, compensation, staff availability, etc. of the United Nations.

A professional diplomat, Ambassador Muhith joined the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in July 2022. He is currently serving as the Chair of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee) of the UN General Assembly as well as the President of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS for the year 2024.
