Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam recently said about the protest in front of the head office of Daily Star and Prothom Alo newspaper, I said yesterday – if law and order situation is created, the government will definitely play its role. If the newspaper office is vandalized or pressure is applied, we will definitely look into it legally.
He said this after a meeting with the delegation of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the secretariat on Tuesday (November 26).
Nahid Islam said, people are not getting help from media as expected. In the past the role of mass media was questioned. Anger has been created in people's minds for various reasons It is the responsibility of the media to clarify that. However, if any media office is vandalized, the government will look into it. Still many established media of the country are spreading wrong news and rumours.
Stating that the interim government will ensure all kinds of environment to ensure the freedom of the media, the information advisor said, the ministry has little chance to take action against the supporters of fascism in the media. Newsrooms have to decide here. Changing voles is not the solution, national reconciliation is possible by acknowledging the truth.
Stating that the police must be strict to avoid chaos, Nahid Islam said that appropriate measures will be taken to deal with the current situation. Anger can lead to agitation. But it will be seen if it goes to the level of violation of law and order. We don't want the police firing into the crowd like in the past. But the police must be stricter to avoid chaos, thus the police force is being restructured.
