Global Positioning System (GPS) technology has been installed to prevent excessive fuel bills for vehicles used by Home Ministry officials.
The officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that earlier the motorists used to write the distance as per their wish and submit the bill-voucher. If the distance of a place is increased by five kilometers, the bill of 10 kilometers for coming and going has to be paid more. In this, the ministry has to bear the huge oil bill every month. However, due to monitoring for two months, the bill has started coming less. The GPS service bill was not received till yesterday Tuesday. However, after the installation of GPS, the bill will come less, officials said.
It is known that many things can be monitored through GPS technology such as vehicle location tracking, vehicle oil consumption, mileage calculation, speed report, engine condition. The vehicles of two departments of the Ministry of Home Affairs have been brought under GPS service.
According to the sources of the Ministry of Home Affairs, 48 thousand taka has been spent on the installation of GPS technology in 16 vehicles of the public safety department and security service department of the ministry. And 350 taka per car should be paid for service every month. However, the cars of the secretary and adviser have been kept out of GPS coverage.
When asked about the overall issue, Khalil Ahmed, joint secretary of security services department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, said, 'GPS trackers have been installed in the vehicles on the orders of the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mohammad Abdul Momin. It will be possible to prevent additional bills from the cars.
