A 52 kg Mahabipanna bagar was sold in Daulatdia for 73 thousand taka


Some local fishermen said that this season, more than half a hundred bagar fish have been caught in the fishermen's nets. Apart from Rajbari, the fishermen of Pabna, Sirajganj, Manikganj regions are catching Pangash, Rui, Katla fish as well as Bagar in Fasan nets.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) list, the bagar is a critically endangered species. According to the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act, poaching, catching and selling of wild animals is a punishable offense. Despite the law, poaching and open sale continue due to lack of implementation. Along with Hilsa, Pangash, Rui, Katla fish, fishermen are hunting this critically endangered animal in the Padma and Yamuna rivers without any hindrance.
